Custom Miniature Architectural Storefront Model – From CAD Drawing to Museum-Quality Display

This bespoke miniature architectural storefront model was commissioned for a private client and designed as a stunning wall-mounted display piece, housed inside a custom-built 3D display case. Every aspect of the model was digitally engineered and handcrafted to accurately recreate the original building with exceptional precision.

The project began by producing a highly detailed AutoCAD technical drawing of the building’s façade. Every architectural feature was carefully drawn, including the windows, doors, Corinthian columns, decorative mouldings, balcony railings, cornices, brickwork, and ornamental details.

Once the complete CAD drawing was finished, every component was separated into individual production layers. This allowed each part to be manufactured using the most suitable fabrication method. Files were prepared for precision laser cutting, chemical brass etching, CNC machining where required, and high-resolution 3D printing.

The primary structure of the model was laser cut from 3mm white acrylic, while the glazing was produced from frosted acrylic to replicate the appearance of real glass. The decorative brass components—including the signage, balcony railings, column capitals, friezes, door handles, and architectural embellishments—were manufactured separately using precision photo-etched brass. Intricate architectural details that could not be laser cut were produced using high-resolution 3D printing.

Each individual component was carefully prepared and painted before assembly. Pre-finishing every part ensured crisp paint lines, cleaner construction, and a superior overall finish. Once the painted components were assembled, the etched brass details were fitted as the final stage, adding depth, texture, and remarkable realism to the completed model.

The finished result is an elegant, museum-quality miniature storefront that captures the character and craftsmanship of the original building. By combining traditional model-making techniques with modern digital manufacturing—including AutoCAD drafting, laser cutting, 3D printing, acrylic fabrication, and precision brass etching—we create highly detailed architectural scale models that are almost indistinguishable from the real buildings they represent.
