How Our Wood Laser Engraving Process Works
Our CO₂ laser works much like a highly accurate digital printer, except instead of applying ink, the laser beam burns the surface of the wood to create a permanent engraved image.
- Vector artwork is used for precision cutting and line engraving.
- Bitmap artwork is used for detailed photographic engraving, logos, illustrations and text.
The laser never touches the material, meaning there is no tool wear, no pressure marks and an extremely clean finish every time.

Different Woods Produce Different Results

Light-Coloured Woods
Materials such as birch, beech, limewood and plywood generally produce a darker, higher contrast engraving, making logos and text exceptionally clear.
Hardwoods
Materials such as oak, bamboo, iroko and other oily hardwoods naturally contain more oils and stronger grain patterns. These woods usually engrave with a lighter appearance while still producing an elegant natural finish.
Moisture Content Makes a Difference
The moisture level of the timber also affects the finished appearance.
As a general rule:
- Dry timber engraves darker.
- Timber with higher natural oil or moisture content engraves lighter.
- Every wood species reacts differently to laser energy, creating its own distinctive character.

The result is an exceptionally crisp, sharp and professional finish.
For colour filling, the wood surface should be smooth and flat. Lacquered or finely finished timbers generally provide the best results.
