Dorchester Hotel Miniature Scale Model

This laser cut architectural model showcases the early construction stages of a bespoke miniature scale model of the Dorchester Hotel in London, combining advanced digital manufacturing techniques with meticulous hand assembly. Designed and fabricated entirely in our workshop, the model demonstrates the exceptional level of detail that can be achieved through precision CO₂ laser cutting, laser engraving and chemical metal etching.

The primary structure was manufactured from 3mm clear cast acrylic, with every wall, floor, window opening and structural component accurately drawn in AutoCAD before being precision laser cut. Delicate laser-etched façade details were engraved directly onto the acrylic surfaces, recreating the architectural grid lines, cladding panels and external features of the building while maintaining excellent optical clarity.

To reproduce the finest architectural details, the project also incorporated chemically etched brass components. Using precision photo-chemical etching, intricate brass parts—including decorative trims, railings, façade details and ornamental architectural features—were manufactured with exceptional accuracy. These ultra-fine components add realism and depth that would be difficult to achieve using conventional machining methods.

Each laser-cut acrylic and etched brass component was carefully assembled by hand to produce a highly accurate architectural representation suitable for professional presentations, exhibitions and museum displays. The combination of transparent acrylic with precision brass detailing allows viewers to appreciate both the external architecture and the underlying structural design of the building.
